About
Terry Camilleri is a Gozo-based photographer who played a formative role in shaping the island’s club scene as a DJ — a contribution best appreciated within the broader context of Gozo’s musical history.
With a background in audio, giving him an early sensitivity to composition and pacing that shaped his photographic eye, he transitioned into professional photography in 2012. He holds a diploma in photography and has served as an official photographer for the Ministry for Gozo and Planning since 2017, receiving the Directorate’s Best Employee Award in 2018.
He co-runs a photo studio and has undertaken commissioned work both locally and internationally, including assignments in New York and Sweden.
Driven by a deep appreciation for landscape photography, Terry’s work is rooted in patience, attention to light, structure, and detail.
Guided by principles of proportion and balance, his compositions often reflect an intuitive sense of harmony inspired by the Fibonacci sequence and classical form — an approach pursued quietly, without seeking recognition.
He was also entrusted by the Cultural Heritage Directorate and the Information Management Unit within the Ministry to produce the Then and Now section of the Gozo Album — a technically demanding rephotography project currently in progress. Scenes dating back up to a century are being meticulously recreated through archival research, precise alignment, and multiple return visits, offering a striking visual record of Gozo’s changing landscape.
While the project’s archival nature does not always align with his natural preferences for subject matter or compositional format, Terry approaches each recreation with the same level of precision, care, and respect.
He remains committed to documenting Gozo’s story with care, precision, and a lasting respect for its landscapes and communities, focused on the integrity of the work above personal recognition.
