The previous main hospital of Gozo upon Saint Francis Square designed by François de Mondion received the first patients in 1728. It was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saint Anthony. In 1887, soon after the granting of the title of City to Ir-Rabat, it was renamed Victoria Hospital.
